DCS Launches Company-Wide Sustainability Initiative and Begins Carbon Footprint Benchmarking

The effort establishes a foundation for long-term emissions reduction, supplier collaboration, and measurable progress toward DCS’s 2040 net-zero commitment.
Franklin, Tenn. – March 5, 2026 – Designed Conveyor Systems (DCS), a leading material handling systems integrator, today announced the launch of a formal operational and supply chain sustainability initiative focused on benchmarking the company’s environmental impact and establishing a long-term pathway toward emissions reduction.
The initiative marks the first time DCS has established a dedicated sustainability function and undertaken a comprehensive evaluation of its organizational carbon footprint. Because DCS designs and integrates automation systems rather than manufacturing equipment directly, a significant portion of its environmental impact resides within its supplier ecosystem.
“Our first priority is understanding where our emissions originate,” said Sustainability Manager Marty Grady. “Once that baseline exists, we can begin working collaboratively with suppliers and partners to reduce carbon intensity over time.”
BENCHMARKING BASED ON GLOBAL SUSTAINABILITY STANDARDS
DCS is conducting its carbon footprint assessment in alignment with the internationally recognized methodology established by the Greenhouse Gas Protocol, the world’s most widely used standard for measuring and managing greenhouse gas emissions.
The Greenhouse Gas Protocol provides structured guidance for categorizing emissions across operational activities and supply chains, enabling organizations to consistently measure environmental impact and track improvement over time.
In parallel, DCS has submitted company sustainability data for evaluation through EcoVadis, a global sustainability assessment platform used by procurement teams and supply chain leaders to evaluate environmental, social, and governance (ESG) performance. EcoVadis assessments measure sustainability maturity across environmental practices, labor and human rights, ethics, and sustainable procurement programs.
Together, these frameworks provide DCS with both emissions benchmarking and broader ESG performance visibility as the company formalizes its supply chain sustainability roadmap.
ESTABLISHING A LONG-TERM NET-ZERO PATHWAY
As part of the initiative, DCS will implement decarbonization solutions in line with achieving net-zero emissions by 2040. The company is currently finalizing its first enterprise-wide carbon footprint calculation, with disclosure anticipated following completion of internal validation processes.
Future phases of the program will focus on:
- Engaging suppliers to reduce the carbon intensity of purchased equipment and services.
- Improving emissions transparency across project delivery activities.
- Identifying opportunities to support renewable energy adoption and reduce waste within the company’s operational footprint.
- Establishing repeatable annual measurement and reporting practices.
Grady noted that sustainability progress within the material handling industry depends heavily on collaboration across interconnected supply chains.
“For integrators like DCS, meaningful progress happens through partnership,” he said. “Reducing emissions requires alignment between customers, integrators, and equipment manufacturers working toward shared goals.”
SUPPORTING CUSTOMERS’ SUSTAINABILITY OBJECTIVES
As customers across commercial and industrial sectors expand their own sustainability reporting requirements, DCS expects its benchmarking efforts to provide increased transparency into supply chain emissions data associated with automation projects.
By aligning internal practices with globally recognized standards, DCS aims to support customers seeking partners capable of contributing to their broader environmental and ESG objectives.
BUILDING SUSTAINABILITY INTO LONG-TERM OPERATIONS
The establishment of a supply chain sustainability program represents an important operational milestone for DCS and reflects growing industry emphasis on responsible supply chain design and execution.
Following completion of its initial carbon inventory, DCS plans to transition focus toward continuous improvement initiatives and supplier collaboration programs designed to reduce emissions over time.
“This is the starting point,” Grady added. “Benchmarking allows us to move from intention to measurable action.”
