DCS’ DATUM Platform Featured in Ambassador Enterprises’ “Innovation Within”

Ambassador Enterprises highlighted Designed Conveyor Systems (DCS) and its DATUM software platform in a feature on innovation across its portfolio companies.
Who Is Ambassador Enterprises?
Ambassador Enterprises is a Fort Wayne, Indiana-based private equity firm. The organization owns and operates a portfolio of companies across several industries. These include Correct Craft, Rival Holdings, SOLV Holdings, Ignite121 Impact Holdings, and Revive Home Brands. DCS operates under SOLV Holdings. Ambassador Enterprises describes its mission around building capability within its partner companies and periodically profiles innovation happening across its platforms.
Owning the Execution Layer
The piece focuses on how DCS chose to build and own the software layer that governs warehouse performance, rather than outsourcing it. As warehouse systems have grown more complex, the logic that prioritizes movement, manages congestion, and reconciles exceptions has become increasingly critical to how facilities operate.
DCS President Matt Ferguson explained the decision directly. “There are layers of a system you can outsource, and layers you shouldn’t,” he said. “We decided the execution layer was one we needed to own.”
Building DATUM
To bring that vision to life, DCS brought in software expertise to work alongside its engineering team. Together, they built DCS’s warehouse execution platform (WES), DATUM. The team wrote the system logic themselves, defining how systems respond, how decisions get made, and how rules apply. Then, they carried that logic into live operating environments.
DATUM first debuted at ProMAT 2023. Since then, it has become a core part of how DCS delivers the execution layer across operating facilities, built on the same engineering standards that shape the rest of DCS’s work.
